The Delta State House of Assembly has passed a series of significant bills aimed at transforming key sectors of the state, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, environmental protection, youth empowerment, and economic development.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Guwor Emomotimi Dennis, disclosed this during a press briefing on Friday in Asaba.
He noted that the legislative strides made during the Second Session of the Assembly were impactful and directly targeted at improving the lives of Deltans.
According to the Speaker, a total of 16 bills were received during the session, comprising eight executive bills and eight private members’ bills. Of these, seven bills were passed, with six already assented to by the governor, one undergoing the process of gubernatorial assent, while the remaining eight are still under consideration.
He added that nine bills carried over from the First Session of the Assembly successfully scaled through the third reading and have since been signed into law by the governor.
Some of the notable laws passed and assented to include the Delta State Child Rights (Amendment) Law, 2024; 2023 Amended Revised Appropriation Law, 2024; Delta State College of Health Technology, Ovrode Law, 2024; Southern Delta University, Ozoro (Establishment) Law, 2024; Appropriation Law, 2025; Supplementary Appropriation Law, 2024; and Delta State Polytechnic, Burutu (Amendment) Law, 2024.
Others are the Delta State Urban and Regional Planning Law, 2024; Delta State Structure for Signage and Advertisement Agency (Amendment) Law, 2024; Delta State Film and Video Censor’s Board Law, 2024; Delta State Registration and Regulation of Private Veterinary Clinics Law, 2024; Special Offences Court (Amendment) Law, 2024; Delta State Pet Control and Responsible Ownership Law, 2024; Delta State Human Trafficking (Prohibition) Law, 2024; and Delta State Electricity Power Sector Law, 2024.
Rt. Hon. Guwor emphasized that the collective impact of these laws is far-reaching, aimed at deepening good governance, enforcing the rule of law, protecting child rights, combating human trafficking, enhancing security, expanding access to higher education, and ensuring a stable electricity supply across the state.
He stated that these legislative actions are designed to improve the quality of life for all Deltans and position the state for sustained development in all critical sectors.
