Senate President Bukola Saraki

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Wednesday, urged his colleagues, members of the executive and all political actors in the country not to be distracted by politicking ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Saraki stated this at a plenary of the Senate while welcoming his colleagues from the Christmas/New Year break, even as he urged them to give the required attention to their legislative duties and not the 2019 elections.

Saraki is sounding like a broken record. His speech is hypocritical and deceptive. How can Saraki tell his colleagues not to be distracted by 2019 elections, when the electoral body has announced time table and even President Buhari’s men have commenced secret campaign for his re-election?

Is Saraki saying that he is not interested in the 2019 poll? That will be a surprise to Nigerians, even though it is possible. Saraki should be reminded that Nigerians know that politicians and elections are like cat and fish.

Politicians cannot stay from elections because politics in Nigeria is all about winning elections by all means to remain relevant in the system.
