Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, to avoid causing disruption in his state.

Makinde made the appeal on Saturday during an event held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in honor of Wike, organized by the Ijaw Peoples Congress.

“I came to identify with my brother, the celebrant of today, the honourable minister of the federal capital territory and the immediate past governor of Rivers state,” Makinde said. “When I showed up yesterday, I told him I brought a peace offering because he has been boasting that he will put fire in some states. I said, please, don’t put fire in Oyo state.”

The Guardian reports that escalating tensions between Wike, a former River State Governor, and the current Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has led to two factions within the Rivers House of Assembly, each electing a speaker loyal to either the minister or the governor.

Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, in August, expressed concern over the developments, stating that the party’s structure in Rivers will be handed over to Fubara.

Wike, in response, threatened to “put fire” in states controlled by governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who are supporting Fubara.

Responding Mohammed declared that he had enough water to quench Wike’s fire.
