Vote credible candidates, ex-PFN president tells Christians
The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and his wife, Betsy, are rallying Edo people to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, in the September 21 governorship election.
The governor, yesterday, urged the Etsako people to vote for the Ighodalo, saying that he has the best plans to lead Edo State further in the part of progress and prosperity.
Obaseki stated this during the party’s campaign rallies in Fugar, Etsako Central, and Agbede, in Etsako West local state councils.
Obaseki expressed surprise and satisfaction at the mammoth crowd that greeted him at the rallies, even as he commended them for coming out during the continuous voter registration exercise in the state, thereby increasing the voting strength of Etsako Central.
He informed the crowd that there is a gas pipeline that passes through Etsako Central and that the PDP candidate has planned to utilise the gas to generate electricity for the people.
In his remark, Asue Ighodalo, who charged the people to come out en masse on Election Day and vote for the PDP, commended the Obaseki-led administration for the improvement in the educational system, workers’ welfare, infrastructure, health, and others, promising to build on what’s already on the ground.
SIMILARLY, the wife of the governor, Betsy, urged the Edo women to remain thorough and extra-careful in their choice of leadership for the state ahead of the September 21 governorship election, cautioning against gender bias and those who might exploit the state’s resources for personal gain.
Mrs. Obaseki made this call yesterday during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Women Campaign Council rally in Okada, at the headquarters of Ovia North East Local Council, and Iguobazuwa, in Ovia South West Local Council.
Mrs. Obaseki noted that a vote for Ighodalo and the PDP would ensure continued progress for Edo State.
HOWEVER, the immediate past National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Rev. Felix Omobude, yesterday, urged the people of Edo State to make good use of the forthcoming gubernatorial election by voting for the right person as governor.
In a message to the people of the state, Omobude, the General Superintendent of New Covenant Gospel Church, with headquarters in Benin City, noted that democracy offers people the opportunity to participate in the process of choosing who governs them.
Addressing the Christian community, the cleric reminded the people that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not count prayer points but votes.
He asked the people to use their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to actively participate in the electoral process, urging them to use the period to show to the entire world that Edo people are knowledgeable and politically enlightened and never give room for political intimidation that will come from godfathers.
He also advised the people to vet the track records of the contestants and vote based on their profiles and credibility according to their choices.
The clergyman prayed for peace and tranquillity before, during, and after the governorship election in the state.
