Edo mass movement to decide on consensus candidate
In a bid to determine its consensus candidate for the polls, a socio-political organisation, the Edo Mass Movement (EMM) has invited Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Godwin Obaseki for an assessment meeting.
The Guardian leant that the organisation held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss issues pertaining to the election and resolved to meet with the candidates next Wednesday.
The former governor of old Midwest and Bendel State, Dr Samuel Ogbemudia formed the organisation in May 2015.
The Guardian leant yesterday that the movement called a meeting on Tuesday where topical issues were discussed.A member of the movement, who pleaded anonymity, told The Guardian that the EMM already has its set goals, but wants to interact to find out who among them meets its criteria.
The meeting which was held at Ogbemudia’s residence, attracted community leaders from the three senatorial districts, including professional bodies, unions and opinion leaders from the 18 local council areas of the state.
While unveiling the platform in Benin City, Ogbemudia had urged the Edo people to come together, “reason, negotiate and act in unison to ensure that the legitimate aspiration of every man and woman is fulfilled in a politically competitive Nigerian environment.”
He stated: “The birth of Edo Mass Movement arose out of the reality that collective efforts are needed to maximise the potentials of the people.”Ogbemudia explained that, “The movement is politically active, but leans not to any partisan sentiment.” He added however, that when partisanship inclinations become unavoidable, the movement would intervene to show the way.
