Governor begins LG campaign tour, warns supporters against violence
Ahead of the governorship election in Ekiti State, members of the State Executive Council, yesterday, donated N100 million for the re-election campaign of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
The council members described the donation as a token of their love and support for the governor’s second term bid.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, and Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Jide Awe, who donated on behalf of their colleagues during a brief meeting at the State Executive Council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti, said members were delighted to be part of the governor’s team and are committed to his re-election for a second term in office.
Responding, Oyebanji thanked the executive members for the gesture, which he described as a show of love and solidarity.
“My profound appreciation to you all for this huge donation. I am so grateful for your love and support,” he added.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor, who is also the Secretary to the Campaign Council, Niyi Adebayo, confirmed that the amount had been received into the account of the campaign council.
The Coordinator of the Welfare Committee of the exco, Prof. Akeem Azeez, thanked members for their generous contributions, which, according to him, made the donation possible.
Meanwhile, Oyebanji has commenced his local council campaign tour for his re-election bid, warning supporters against violence before and during the election.
In his remark, Chairman of Ekiti APC, Sola Eleshin, said that the solidarity behind the governor was a result of his giant strides across all sectors.
Eleshin noted that the governor’s stint within the three and a half years had been unprecedented, which, according to him, necessitated the reason to go for a second term.
He, therefore, urged the Ikole community to come en masse for the state’s helmsman, assuring them of maximum delivery of democracy after re-election.
Oyebanji, however, expressed his immense gratitude to the Ikole community for their support over the years, promising to consolidate on his first governance to deliver more dividends of democracy.
He warned against violence during and after the election, urging the supporters to use their votes as weapons to flush out the opposition.
A youth leader in the council, David Valentine, commended the governor for his developmental strides across all parastatals, especially youth development, with a promise to deliver enormous votes for the governor more than any other local council.
The governor also took the tour to Oye Local Council of the state, where he urged supporters to vote massively for the APC to secure Ekiti for President Bola Tinubu during the 2027 general elections.
