A seasoned lawyer and pastor, Julius Oladele Adesina (SAN) has been appointed by Ekiti State Government as the Chairman, Governing Council of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti.

Adesina, who hails from Ilawe-Ekiti in Ekiti South West Local Council of the state, has served the Nigerian Bar Association in various capacities, including Chairman Ikeja Branch, and General Secretary of the body. He was a former member of the Governing Council of the Covenant University, a private institution belonging to the Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel), where he is a pastor.

Consequently, Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose approved the appointment of Adesina as the new Chairman of the University governing council. With this appointment, Adesina joins a select group of lawyer that has been appointed to contribute to the development of tertiary education in Nigeria. The list includes Chief Afe Babalola SAN (former Pro Chancellor, University of Lagos), Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN (former Pro Chancellor, University of Ibadan), Prince Lateef Fagbemi (Chairman Governing Council, Yaba College of Technology), and a host of others.

The lawyer’s appointment, which takes immediate effect, followed the resignation of former Minister of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, which was accepted by the state Government.

Adeyeye’s resignation came on the heels of the endorsement of the state’s Deputy Governor, Olusola Eleka, as the Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for next year’s Governorship elections.

According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mrs. Modupe Alade, “The Ekiti Government thanked Adeyeye for his contributions to the university and wished him well in his future endeavours”.

Adesina, who is currently on vacation outside Nigeria, promised to serve the university, Ekiti, and Nigeria to the best of his ability. “I see this appointment as a call to service for the interest of the people. I am humbled and I can only promise to bring my best to bear on the development of the university,” he said.
