Ekiti: Observers, contestants adjudge election peaceful


Majarity of the candidates contesting legislative seats in Ekiti State, yesterday, described the exercise as peaceful.Except in few cases, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agents had misunderstanding over who and how necessary assistance could be rendered to the aged and persons with disabilities.
One of the domestic observers, Emeka Nwosi, said voting was very peaceful except in some outskirts of Ado Ekiti, where INEC was understaffed.  
For instance, accreditation and voting commenced at unit 011, Ado J-Okesa at exactly 8:05 am. It was same at Unit 17, where voting started at about 8:15. Likewise in Iyin, the exercise was peaceful at Ward 11 Unit 017 and also at Olubobokun Unit 012.
Disclosing the reason for the serenity in Ekiti during the election, yesterday, a member of the Joint Task Force (JTF), which comprises joint personnel from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Police, civil defence, Immigration and intelligence officers said Governor Kayode Fayemi applied a proactive approach, by ensuring that all known and notorious hoodlums that have been causing security breaches and murder in the state before the election were apprehended and kept in custody.
