Engineers caution professionals against unethical conduct
ENGINEERS in the country under the Council for the Regulation of Engineers in Nigeria (COREN) has warned professionals in the industry against unethical conduct, stressing that anyone found wanting would be sanctioned.
The warning was given by the National President of the Council, Kashim A. Ali, during the inauguration of Engineering Regulation Monitoring (ERM) for Kano, Jigawa and Katsina inspectors which took place in Kano.
He called on all engineers to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s crusade against corruption.
Ali stated that, “We have noticed that over 90 per cent of the nation’s appropriation is in engineering projects where a lot of corrupt practices take place. Any engineer involved in irregularity will be severely sanctioned.”
While commending the professionals for their contributions towards the development of the nation, he appealed to all engineering firms to obtain COREN practicing licence, “as condition for pre-qualification for any engineering job in Nigeria,” he said.
The National President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ademola Isaac Olurunfemi, in his contribution said for a meaningful advancement of the profession in the country, all stakeholders must support the regulation and monitoring of engineering practice.
The essence for establishing NSE is the advancement of engineering practice; and our forbearers, mainstreamed various critical elements of control into the practice in order to uphold the dignity of practitioners and the profession,” he emphasised.
Olurunfemi revealed that the Society will present Nigeria’s maiden Infrastructure Scorecard to President Buhari on November 17, 2015.
