Enugu officials defect to APC

Ahead of Tuesday’s formal defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), all his appointees on Monday decamped to the APC.

They dumped the PDP after an extended cabinet meeting held at the Government House, presided over by Governor Mbah.

A video posted by Governor Mbah’s Media Aide, Dan Nwomeh, which confirmed their defection, showed the appointees brandishing APC flags and chanting Mbah’s praises.

Nwomeh, however, wrote on his social media page: “Enugu State Cabinet Members join the APC with full chest along with Governor PN Mbah — from left to right, Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr Lawrence Ezeh; Chairman of the Science, Technical, and Vocational Schools Management Board, Dr Amaka S. Ngene; and Commissioner for Labour and Employment, Dr Felix Nnamani.”

The state officials could be heard in the video praising President Bola Tinubu and chorusing, “We are now in APC, tomorrow is here; it is APC all the way; it is Jagaban all the way; from top to bottom.”

Apart from commissioners, all other aides of the governor have also declared for the APC.

On Monday, the State Chairman of the PDP, Dr Martin Chukwunwike, resigned from the party.

Chukwunwike is set to declare for the APC on Tuesday alongside Governor Mbah.

Also on Monday, messages were circulated to the 17 local government areas through their chairmen detailing arrangements for their movement to the Michael Okpara venue for the governor’s defection.
