Former Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), bringing to a close a four-year period of political disengagement from the ruling party.
In a letter dated April 15, 2026, and addressed to the APC Chairman of Kofar Fada Ward in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State, Abba said the correspondence was intended to officially reaffirm his withdrawal from the party.
The former police chief disclosed that he had not participated in any APC activity since June 10, 2022, including meetings at the national, state, local government and ward levels.
He said his decision was further demonstrated by his refusal to participate in the party’s membership re-registration exercise, which ended on April 14, 2026.
“This letter, therefore, is meant to fully confirm my withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress,” Abba stated.
Reflecting on his time in the APC, the retired Inspector-General expressed gratitude to the party’s leadership for providing him with the platform to begin his political career.
He recalled his attempt to secure the APC’s ticket for the Jigawa South Senatorial District in 2018, noting that the ambition was halted before the National Assembly primary election.
Despite his exit from the ruling party, Abba said he remained committed to working with leaders and stakeholders in advancing the welfare of the people of his ward, Jigawa State and the country.
“I thank you all very much and look forward to your collaboration with me in my patriotic zeal to improve the lives of our people in this ward, Jigawa State and our dear nation, Nigeria,” the letter read.
Copies of the letter were also sent to the APC chairmen in Gwaram Local Government Area and Jigawa State, formally notifying the party of his decision.
