Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has said he will tackle insecurity through oil and gas exploration in the Lake Chad Basin, if elected in 2023 general elections.

Atiku made the pledge, yesterday, during the PDP presidential campaign rally at Ramat Square, Maiduguri, Borno State.

According to him, the almost eight years of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration is marked by continuous rise in poverty and unemployment among youths and women in the country.

He also noted that the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi, tasked him with the resuscitation of the Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA), to address food insecurity, poverty and unemployment in the insurgency affected North East region.

“Today’s presidential campaign pledges made to the monarch in Maiduguri include overcoming insecurity and to restore peace in Borno and the country at large,” he added.

The El-Kanemi tasked the PDP to link the 27 local councils of the state to national grid, Atiku disclosed. PDP reportedly received over 5,000 defectors from APC led by Ali Wurge.
