HURIWA to lawmakers: Investigate complicity of armed forces in Southern Kaduna genocide

Worried by the extensive killings going on in parts of embattled Southern Kaduna State with specific reference to ongoing killings by armed Fulani militia in Zango Kataf local government area council of Kaduna State, the National Assembly has been asked to probe alleged widespread complicity of the military and police in these killings.

Besides, the Rights group observed that the heads of security forces in Kaduna have come under increasing accusations of compromising the security and safety of the largely Christians in Southern Kaduna as their communities increasingly come under continuous attacks by armed Fulani terrorists. 

HURIWA said allegations are rife that the mostly Moslem dominated security hierarchy in the country may have instructed their troops in Kaduna to be passive and permit the large scale killings of the native people by armed Fulani herdsmen who share same ethnicity and religion with the security chiefs just as the Rights group said the killings may be unending unless the security heads found wanting for allowing these killings are arrested, prosecuted and punished to serve as deterrent to others. 

HURIWA said: “We have received a lot of complaints from hundreds of people in the line of fire in Southern Kaduna and most of these victims protested that the troops posted to maintain peace in Kaduna State have actively provided logistical support for the armed Fulani attackers carrying out the unimaginable scale of killings”.

In a media statement, the National Coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media Affairs Director Miss Zainab Yusuf, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), accused the service Chiefs and the President of doing nothing to stop the systematic genocide going on in Southern Kaduna even as the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and his government are completely guilty of being actively complicit in these huge scale mass murders. 

“We believe that the Kaduna State governor needs to resign for doing nothing to stop the killings. In fact there are alleged information that Governor El-Rufai had once stated in a social media post that his kinsmen, the Fulani will always carry out reprisals if any of their people are killed and that if a person is killed, almost 100 persons from the alleged guilty party and community will be killed as a revenge. Going by this story, it is inconceivable that the governor would be bothered that his kinsmen are now waging a war of attrition on Christians over perceived earlier attacks no matter how few the victims were”. 

“It is regrettable that a population is under consistent attacks but both the Kaduna State government and the Federal government have never bothered to act decisively to crush the proliferation of what clearly is Fulani insurgency. The victims of these attacks are mostly Christian natives and there are allegations that the armed Fulani attackers bombarding these Southern Kaduna communities are being armed by security forces of Nigeria. The National Assembly needs not embark on meaningless vacation when the people of Southern Kaduna are on the verge of being wiped off the Map of Nigeria by the invading marauders suspected to be Fulani terrorist.”

HURIWA also disclosed that it has received documentary evidence that over 100 communities of the native Christians in Southern Kaduna have so far being occupied by armed Fulani Marauders. The Rights group said it was shocking that the Kaduna State government and the Federal government have failed to take steps to ensure that the victims of these killings and occupation are resettled back to their native communities and the occupiers prosecuted for their criminal and terror related actions of carrying out well coordinated genocide. 

HURIWA said it will send petition to World leaders on this issue but it has pleaded with the media to inform the international community that the captured and occupied Southern Kaduna Territories are as follows:
 
Below are  indigenous rural Christian communities of  Southern Kaduna that have been sacked by rampaging armed Fulani militia and displaced to various communities and IDPs camps. These villages are now under the full occupation of Fulani some for over two years listed bellow according to LGAs and Wards.
