The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Taraba state, Professor Jerome Nyameh, has pledged to adopt a hands on approach to governance if elected in the 2027 general elections, promising to remain within the state and dedicate his administration to addressing the needs of the people.
Speaking during an interaction with party supporters and stakeholders, Professor Nyameh said one of the defining features of his administration would be accessibility, accountability, and a strong commitment to service delivery.
According to him, the era of leaders spending extended periods away from their constituencies must give way to a governance style that prioritizes direct engagement with citizens and constant supervision of government activities.
“I shall be a resident governor, cutting down unnecessary travels. I will always be in the state and work,” he declared.
The Accord Party candidate explained that effective leadership requires the physical presence of the governor in order to closely monitor projects, respond swiftly to emerging challenges, and maintain regular contact with communities across the state.
Professor Nyameh argued that governors who spend more time within their states are better positioned to understand the daily realities of the people and ensure that government policies are implemented efficiently.
He emphasized that his administration would focus on strengthening institutions, promoting transparency, and accelerating development across key sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and job creation.
The professor noted that Taraba state possesses enormous human and natural resources that can be harnessed to transform the state’s economy and improve the living standards of its citizens.
He said his administration would prioritize prudent management of public resources and ensure that government expenditures are directed toward projects that have direct impact on the lives of ordinary residents.
Political observers say the pledge by the Accord Party candidate is likely to resonate with many voters who have repeatedly called for greater accessibility and responsiveness from public office holders.
Analysts also noted that the promise to reduce official travels and remain within the state reflects growing public demand for leaders who maintain closer contact with the people and provide visible supervision of government programmes.
As political campaigns gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election, Professor Nyameh’s declaration is expected to become one of the major talking points in the state’s political discourse.
The Accord Party candidate joins a growing list of aspirants seeking to convince voters that they possess the vision and leadership capacity required to address the developmental challenges facing Taraba state.
With the election season approaching, residents are expected to closely scrutinize the promises and policy proposals of candidates as they seek support across the state’s sixteen local government areas.
For many observers, Professor Nyameh’s commitment to being a “resident governor” represents not only a campaign promise but also a statement of the leadership style he intends to bring to the Government House if entrusted with the mandate of the people in 2027.
