I’m out to recapture Kano for APC, says minister
Ex-federal lawmaker advises governor on governance
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, has revealed his intention to recapture Kano State for the All Progressives Congress (APC).He made the declaration during a chat with journalists at the weekend.
Kano was controlled by the APC when its national chair, Abdullahi Ganduje, was governor of the state. The party lost control of the state to the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) at the 2023 poll.
The minister said his appointment was mainly for political reasons. “Even as a minister, I will continue to sit in this ward; we are going to work very hard to see that APC gains control of Kano State by 2027.
“I am posted to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, I will do my work, but I will be coming to Kano State every week to work towards gaining control of the state,” he said.
HOWEVER, former House of Representatives Deputy Minority Whip, Abdulrahman Suleiman Kawu, has advised the state governor, Abba, to avoid extending undue favouritism towards the Kwankwasiyya movement.
Acknowledging that Yusuff should respect and recognise the party’s presidential candidate and leader of the party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, he, however, maintained that the governor must not accord undue privileges to members of the Kwankwasiyya movement within his administration. He charged him to walk his talks on genuine reconciliation with perceived political enemies.
