A senatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Bauchi South Senatorial District, Hon. Abdulmumi Kundak, has alleged that no valid primary election was conducted in the district for the exercise scheduled for Monday.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Kundak called on the party’s national leadership to investigate what he described as irregularities surrounding the process in Bauchi State.
He insisted that there was no evidence that any primary election took place across the senatorial district.
“You are all living witnesses. Where was the election conducted? Can anybody show any ward or polling unit where the exercise took place?” he asked.
Kundak described the exercise as a “so-called primary,” alleging that due process was not followed and that the process was hijacked by certain individuals within the party.
He said his decision to speak publicly was to draw the attention of the party leadership to what transpired in the state and ensure accountability.
According to him, although some individuals had already announced a candidate for the senatorial seat, the party leadership must verify whether the process complied with established guidelines.
Kundak, who said he entered the race following calls from stakeholders and party members, expressed disappointment that the expected transparent process did not take place.
“I was thinking there would be an elaborate and transparent process to make the primary possible, but now it has been hijacked by some people,” he said.
He, however, expressed optimism that the internal crisis within the party could be resolved ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing it as an internal matter capable of strengthening the party if properly handled.
