The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general elections, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, yesterday, held a closed-door meeting with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, in Ibadan.
Kwankwaso, while speaking with journalists after the meeting, emphasised that his relationship with Makinde transcends partisan lines.
He described the visit as strictly a courtesy call, dismissing suggestions of political bargaining or coalition-building.
The former Kano State Governor said that his presence in Ibadan was primarily to inaugurate a new NNPP state office and engage party stakeholders in Oyo State.
He was accompanied by senior party officials, including Secretary of the NNPP Board of Trustees, Buba Galadima, and other leaders of the party in the state.
He was received by Makinde before both men proceeded into a private meeting that lasted over an hour.
However, Kwankwaso used the opportunity to reflect on his political journey, recalling his foundational role in the PDP in 1998 and his election as Governor of Kano State in 1999 on the party’s platform.
The leader of the Kwankwasiyya political movement, after he engaged with Makinde, proceeded to inaugurate the NNPP office in Ibadan, describing the move as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence and consolidate its structures in the South-West.
