Former Commissioner for Works, Transport and Housing in Kano, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, has been declared winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primaries in Kano.

Yusuf, a son-in-law to former governor of the state and senator representing Kano Central, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, won the PDP primaries during a marathon congress held yesterday at Lugard House, a private residence owned by Kwankwaso.

Chairman of the PDP gubernatorial primaries committee in Kano, Ezogu (Dr.) Emeka Onunha (JP), who declared the results yesterday, said Abba defeated other aspirants with 2,451 votes.

In another development, the chances of Adamawa State PDP governorship candidate, Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, winning next year’s election, received a huge boost yesterday as the defeated aspirants that contested in the party’s primaries pledged to offer their services for the party to win.

One of the contestants, who spoke at the party’s secretariat in Yola, Alhaji Aliyu Ahmed, said that he was happy with the transparent manner the primaries were conducted and that he lost due to the popularity of Fintiri and not as a result of manipulation of voters.

Besides, the state party chairman, Alhaji Abubakar T. Shehu, said other aspirants that took part in the primaries had contacted the party leadership to pledge their support for Fintiri to ensure victory at next year’s general elections.
