Labour Party receives decampees in Kaduna, targets 2027
Hundreds of supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and other opposition parties in Kaduna State decamped to the Labour Party (LP), as the leaders pledged to reposition the party in the country.
The LP leaders, both at the national level and in Kaduna, received the decampees who were led by the sister of the former APC chieftain and late Commissioner of Education in the state, Tinok Andrew Nok, on Saturday.
She is a senatorial aspirant in the 2023 general election from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), who has now joined the Labour Party in Kaduna State.
She expressed her conviction that the Labour Party shares her ideology of honesty and service to the people.
She said: “My decision to join the Labour Party is influenced by Senator Nenadi Usman, National Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party, and promised to leverage my wealth of experience to strengthen the party and contribute to its growth in Kaduna State.”
Receiving Tinok into the party, Labour Party’s 2023 governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Jonathan Asake, representing Senator Nenadi Usman, assured that the party is undergoing a transition and would harness her expertise to become a viable party in the state and the country at large.
Asake, who also received others into the LP, said “all of you know that I am one of the founding members of the PDP and also represented Kaduna State at the National Assembly in the House of Representatives under the PDP, so I welcome all of you from other parties into the Labour Party today. And I promise you that we are going to reposition this party together after our National Convention, where we will elect the new leadership of LP in readiness for the 2027 elections.”
He urged Tinok and several other decampees to bring their experiences to bear in repositioning the Labour Party in Kaduna State.
Besides, the event also featured the presentation of Labour Party flags to the party chairmanship candidates ahead of the October 19 local government elections in the state.
Tinok’s defection is seen as a significant boost to the Labour Party in Kaduna State ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The massive crowd that graced the occasion reflected the enthusiasm and optimism surrounding Tinok’s move to the Labour Party in the state.
With this development, supporters and members of the party predict a shift in the balance of power in Kaduna State, with the Labour Party’s growing momentum expected to impact the state’s political landscape.
As the October 19 local government elections approach, all eyes are on the Labour Party’s performance.
Earlier, the state caretaker committee chairman of the party, Mr. Yusuf Solomon Danbaki, assured the candidates in the state council’s election that the party would support them and work tirelessly for their success.
