Lagos LG Polls: YP candidate accuses LAISEC of compromise

Youth Party candidate for Eti Osa Local Government Area, Ayodele Adio, has raised alarm over what he describes as “deliberate manipulation” of the electoral process by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).

In a statement on Tuesday, Adio accused LASIEC of compromising the integrity of the election by releasing a misleading polling guide barely three weeks before the election, which restricts party preparedness and delegitimises the entire process.

“A polling guide is not an afterthought. It is a fundamental part of election guidelines and should have been released even before the announcement of election dates. What LASIEC has done is not just negligent—it’s an orchestrated attempt to derail free and fair elections,” Adio stated.

According to him, political parties have just about a week to submit names of party agents, which is unrealistic given the sudden changes in the number of polling units.
“LASIEC has inexplicably increased the number of polling units in certain areas without prior notice, leaving political parties grossly underprepared.”

He further alleged that LASIEC has also overstepped its legal boundaries by attempting to delineate and distribute polling units, an action that is constitutionally reserved for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“Of greater concern is the lack of clarity in the naming and location of polling units. The recently released guide lists numerous vague locations, such as Itedo land and Ikate land, some of which are repeated multiple times without proper addresses or public landmarks. This ambiguity is a recipe for chaos and disenfranchisement on Election Day.

“Furthermore, the Electoral Act is clear: polling units must be located in public and accessible places. When units are dumped in obscure or undefined locations, in palaces of traditional rulers, it completely disenfranchises voters.

“These are not just administrative lapses—they are signs of a compromised process skewed in favour of the ruling party,” he added.
