More officials quit cabinet as Yusuf launches APC e-registration exercise

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf

In the wake of the mass defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, more political appointees have resigned, declaring their unalloyed loyalty to the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso

The resignations came as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf cut political ties with the former presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Kwankwaso, after dumping the opposition party.

Amid a mammoth crowd of APC supporters and loyal Kwankwasiyya followers, Yusuf rejoined the ruling party on Monday, along with 22 out of 24 members of the state House of assembly, nine of 14 NNPP federal lawmakers and the entire 44 council chairmen.

In a clear opposition to Governor Yusuf’s realignment, two more commissioners have tendered their resignations along with two heads of agencies supposedly loyal to Kwankwaso.

Those who quit their appointments are Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Service, AVM Ibrahim Umar; Commissioner for Special Duties, Nasiru Sule Garo; Director-General, Kano Pilgrims Board, Laminu Rabiu, and Managing Director of Kano State Roads Maintenance Agency (KARMA), Hassan Danbappa.

Prior to the latest development, the gale of resignations started with the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar-Mata and his counterpart from Youth and Sport, Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

In their resignations addressed to the Secretary to the State Government, Garo and Umar said their decision was the result of thoughtful consideration.

KOWEVER, the governor has officially launched the All Progressives Congress (APC) electronic registration (e-registration) exercise in Kano, marking a significant step towards strengthening the party’s internal democracy and expanding its membership base.

This was contained in a statement signed yesterday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. Yusuf flagged off the exercise on Monday at the Coronation Hall, Government House Kano, shortly after rejoining the party, in the company of eight members of the House of Representatives, 21 members of the Kano State House of Assembly and members of the State Executive Council.

He described the initiative as a transparent, inclusive and technology-driven process designed to modernise party administration and ensure credible membership records.

The governor noted that the e-registration exercise would enhance efficiency, eliminate duplication and provide an accurate database that reflects the true strength of the party across wards, local government areas and the state at large. He urged party members, supporters and prospective members to participate actively in the exercise to ensure its overall success.
