My mission in politics, by Mimiko

GOVERNOR Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has described himself  as a political evangelist whose motive in politics is to serve God and humanity.

He said this against the backdrop of the general belief that politics is about cultism and diabolism.   Addressing guests at a special thanksgiving service for the state’s Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Banji Okunomo in Akure, Dr. Mimiko said his own kind of politics is not diabolical neither is it about cultism but an evangelical calling to serve humanity affirming that he belongs to the generation of politicians that serve God.

He stressed further that good Christians should also come into politics to be able to serve their people diligently and conscientiously for the betterment of the society and Nigeria as a whole.

He said: “Thank God that I belong to the generation of politicians that serve God. I’m bold to say that I don’t serve any other God apart from God Almighty and he has been helping me in my political career. “Politics is an evangelical calling and not about what people think that you must belong to occultic group. It’s an opportunity to serve the Lord”.

Meanwhile, the Ondo state government has been commended by   the World Bank Team on Performance Based Financing (PBF) for “running a unique and   reform-oriented health system which is globally acknowledged and well accepted”.

The World Bank Team leader on Performance Based Financing (PBF), Dr Oluwole Odutolu,  made the commendation  at the weekend during a visit to Mimiko.   “Our  visit to some primary health care facilities across the state on the Performance Based Financing  revealed that  Ondo state  is a reform oriented  state that deserves World bank collaboration to deepen its reforms”.

Odutolu, who led a team from  World Bank, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency and the Federal Ministry of Finance  noted that the State is unique because it runs a reform-oriented health system which is globally acknowledged and well accepted.

Scoring the state high in primary healthcare delivery system, Odutolu submitted that the establishment of the State Primary Healthcare Development Board by the government  has also added value to basic healthcare in the State.

He added that primary healthcare has been scaled up in the 18 council areas of the state to appreciable level, adding that referral to secondary level was also working as expected. He called on the state government to develop an health care finance mechanism to sustain the laudable health care programmes of the Mimiko- led administration after the expiration of his tenure.
