No democracy survives with discredited judiciary, says Ndoma-Egba
Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Victor Ndoma-Egba yesterday said that no democracy survives with a discredited judiciary. He made the remark during a reception dinner in honor of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onoghen at the International Convention Centre in Calabar.
While assuring the CJN of their support through prayers, Ndoma-Egba, charged the judicial system to deplore self-cleansing mechanism to cleanse the profession and specifically urged Onoghen to reconnect the people with the judiciary.
“No democracy survived with discredited judiciary whether from within or without. We must deplore the self-cleansing mechanism for the judiciary to cleanse itself. At the same time, the judiciary must have the courage to do that.
“I urge you to reconnect the people with the Nigerian judiciary. I have no doubt that Onoghen has the courage to do that,” he noted.Speaking, Onoghen tasked Nigerians, home and abroad, to live by the law and not by impunity, noting that if such could be achieved, it would shape the judicial system to do better justice when the need arises.
Kanu Agabi (SAN) said the country’s unity and peace was not negotiable, neither was it an option.“Nigerians should stop binding the nation on earth so that God will not bind it in heaven. We are good, honest and resilient people and we should believe in one Nigeria,” he said.
