NUP promises to tackle power shortage, provide good governance

The governorship candidate of National Unity Party (NUP) in Anambra State, Chief Nnoli Justin Amaechi, has blamed shortage of power as the cause of under-development in the state.

The Abuja-based businessman said his first assignment would be to build independent power plants to tackle the poor power supply in the state, which he said, would boost employment, industrialisation and development.

Amaechi, who spoke yesterday in Adazi-ani, Anocha Local Council of the state, during the flag-off of his campaign, said no state or country could develop with only one source of power, especially the hydro-power plant, which is the case in Nigeria.

The candidate, who noted that the country would continue to import finished products due to high cost of production in Nigeria, said the only way states could boost internally-generated revenues was to build independent power plant, which he said, is the bedrock for economic development.

He pledged that his administration would change the policy of waiting for allocations from Abuja to address the problems of Anambra people if given opportunity to be governor.

The NUP candidate also pledged to run a transparent, fair and just administration, as he assured workers and pensioners that their welfare package would be his major agenda.

Meanwhile, National Chairman of the party, Chief Pere Oparah, represented by Ifeanyi Nweke, urged the people of the state to vote for the party, insisting that NUP is the only party with programmes that can restore Anambra’s lost glory.
