Why Buhari should not continue beyond 2019

A senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State, Mohammed Chubado Modibbo, has described ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo as a cornerstone in Nigerian politics.

Modibbo who spoke to journalists yesterday in Yola said that whoever underrates Obasanjo’s political strength in deciding who governs Nigeria is ignorant. He said: “Those All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders who today say Obasanjo has no political base, were the same people who in 2015 relocated to Otta farm to solicit his support.

“When he declared support for President Mohammadu Buhari, they all said he would win with his support, and he won. Today the same people are saying that Obasanjo has no political value because he endorsed Atiku Abubakar.”He explained further that when Obasanjo endorsed the late President Umaru Yar’Adua, he won, when he endorsed former President Goodluck Jonathan, he won and when he endorsed Buhari, he also won, just as he has now endorsed Atiku.

The senatorial candidate urge those who think that Obasanjo is not politically important to be prepared to escort Buhari back to Daura, his hometown come May 29, 2019. Modibbo also remanded those that are under-rating Obasanjo to note that the former president has not written a letter to any Nigerian president and that leader wins his second term election.

Modibbo, who is contesting against his elder brother’s wife (Binani) who is the standard bearer of APC, said Buhari’s government has not only failed woefully, but that it has divided the country along religious and ethnic sentiments.According to him, Atiku will face a great challenge of reuniting Nigerians, rebuilding their confidence and restoring the lost glory, if he wins the poll.

He said that APC is an epidemic that Nigerians must do everything possible to eradicate, by avoiding the calamity that will befall the country, if they return Buhari in error.Meanwhile, a group, Good Governance Initiative (GGI) has berated Buhari for failing to live up to his 2015 campaign promises, especially in the areas of security and economy.

The group noted with dismay, that government has continued its nonchalant attitude towards safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians. It cited the heightening level of terrorists’ activities in the northeast and general insecurity in the country.Addressing journalists in Abuja yesterday, President of the Group, Mr. Nnosike Nwosu, regretted the number of millions of jobs that have been lost under the Buhari presidency. He added that Buhari’s presidency means pain “with herdsmen killing unsuspecting innocent Nigerians with impunity, while government’s non action to their activities emboldens them.”
