Oke blames bad leadership for state’s recession

The governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Olusola Oke, has blamed the state’s poor economy on government’s bad leadership.

Oke spoke in Akure yesterday at a meeting with a youth group, the Concerned Ondo State Youths.He said the current economic recession was biting harder in the state because Governor Olusegun Mimiko failed to save for the rainy day, despite the revenues that it earned in the last seven and half years.


According to him, the present administration mismanaged the state’s resources, including its borrowed funds and abandoned the people to suffer.

He added that the youths are mostly affected because they are the ones who are worst hit by unemployment and other social vices.He said: “Any state where there is poor production and commercial activities is bound to suffer poverty. That is why there is lack scale unemployment in the state, huge indebtedness and inability to pay workers’ salaries for upward of six months.

The candidate said the state has no business with joblessness and poverty in view of its natural endowment.He urged the younger generation not to shirk in their responsibilities of ensuring good governance by voting for a candidate that could change the people’s fortunes.

Oke described himself as a God-sent candidate to save the state from collapse.He condemned government’s harsh economic policies, which have killed manufacturing and raised the prices of goods and services.

The candidate alleged that Mimiko’s administration is guilty of oppressive rules, which had succeeded because there was no leader to challenge those in positions.

He added that the current administration was lacking in vision, hence it is unable to harness the vast resources for the benefit of the people. He promised to transform the state from its current mono-economy by diversifying into agriculture and industrialisation.
