THE three major political parties in the gubernatorial tussle in Delta State have expressed confidence to carry the day as the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba delivers judgement today.

The panel is to rule on two separate petitions challenging the declaration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the April 11, 2015 poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In separate interviews, the PDP state chairman, Chief Edwin Uzor, state secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chidi Okonji and state chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Chief Tony Ezeagwu claimed victories individually as they maintained that they had proved all reasonable doubts at the tribunal.

Uzor said: “Our victory was not a fluke. We won freely and have been able to prove it at the tribunal. We are children of success not failure. We will win,” the PDP chief stated.

For Okonji, APC had confidence that it will get justice from the judiciary, adding that: “Whatever the verdict, we will take but we are optimistic that we will win. We will get justice.”

Speaking in the same vein, Ezeagwu who initially exhibited high spirits, however, expressed fears that his party may not get justice if the verdicts of the State and National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal were considered. His party’s candidates lost in what he alleged were controversial judgments.
“Going by the tribunal verdicts in the state and national elections, we are afraid. All the controversial elections were upheld but even then, we are still not giving up. We are optimistic,” he added

Olorogun O’tega Emerhor of the APC and Chief Great Ogboru of the LP are in the two petitions seeking the nullification of Okowa’s election on the ground of alleged substantial non-compliance with extant guidelines.

The chairman of the three-man tribunal, Justice Nasir Gunmi had on October 13 reserved judgment following the adoption of written addresses by counsel to the respective parties in the dispute.
