The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has addressed concerns raised regarding the alleged non-payment of some ad-hoc staff recruited for the recently concluded Local Government elections held on October 9, 2024.

The Commission said that it understands the importance of the issue and is actively working to ensure that all payments are completed in a timely and efficient manner.

As of today, PLASIEC has successfully processed and completed eighty-five percent of the payments due to ad-hoc staff.

The Head of Media, PLASIEC, Koro E. Yakubu, in a statement issued on Monday, however, said that certain challenges have slowed down the payment process for the remaining staff, as the Commission has identified instances where individuals’ details, such as names and account numbers, have been duplicated.

“Also, the use of unrecognised Mobile Money Operators, as well as Micro Finance Banks, which some of the ad-hoc staff provided, are not recognized by the payment platform of our issuing bank. This has resulted in rejected payments.

“The commission’s Electoral Officers are, however, actively reaching out to those affected by these issues to correct the errors and ensure payments are processed swiftly.

“We further advise any ad-hoc staff who still have concerns or complaints regarding their payments to visit our respective Local Government Offices for further clarification and assistance,” the statement added.

It said that PLASIEC remains committed to transparency, fairness, and ensuring that all ad-hoc staff receive their rightful payments. “We assure you that no one will be shortchanged, and we are working diligently to resolve any outstanding matters.”
