Suspected thugs attack Sule Lamido presidential campaign rally in Kaduna

I won’t be a dictator if I become chairman of PDP, says George
Pandemonium broke out yesterday at the presidential campaign rally of former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, in Kaduna, as several armed thugs invaded the venue brandishing dangerous weapons and inflicting injuries on the supporters.

Four victims of the attack sustained deep cut on their neck, while the left arm of one of them was severed from the body with blood gushing out. Several others sustained body injuries.

Many journalists, who were present at the Rabbah Road venue of the rally, took to their heels, just as some of the dignitaries at the venue made fruitless efforts to inform the police of the attack.

Meanwhile, Lamido, who addressed the supporters before the attack, had berated the administration of Buhari for poor handling of the nation’s social, political and economic affairs.

In another development, former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), South-West Zone and aspirant to the national chairmanship position of the party, Chief Olabode George, has said that he will be a team-player if he becomes the party’s chairman.

George, who spoke yesterday when he opened his campaign office in Abuja, dispelled reports that he would be high-handed in running the party’s affairs if elected.

“I am not going to be an overlord. Somebody must emerge and whoever emerges through a normal process, we will support him.

“If it is the will of God that I will be chairman of this party, I will work with everybody. I will do my job to the best of my ability. “We need a captain, a man who knows the written and unwritten laws of the party.”

Meanwhile, one of the leading contestants for the office of the national chairmanship, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, who was present at the occasion, lauded the contributions of George to the Nigerian project.

He said: “Let me thank Chief George not only for his contributions to the PDP but also for his services to Nigeria.

“My presence here is to give full solidarity to Olabode George. We rose from a meeting yesterday (Monday) and we agreed that this (the contest) is going to be a family affair.

“He is a team-player, very courageous. In 2019, we cannot succeed without the support of Bode George or any of the other aspirants.”
