A frontline Arewa group, Northern Youth Leaders Forum (NYLF), has called for the sack and arrest of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over what it described as a threat to democracy.

Recall that while speaking during the party’s state congress at the PDP Secretariat in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Saturday, Wike warned the PDP governors to steer clear of the party’s affairs.

“Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of the PDP from us. But let me tell people, I hear some governors who say they will take over the structure and give it back to somebody.

“I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states. When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace, anything you see, you take,” Wike had said.

The NYLF, which has its membership from the 19 Northern states and FCT, expressed this in a statement signed by its President, Eliot Afiyo, and made available to journalists.

Afiyo said: “It is with great and utmost necessity that we issue this statement on the grave and dangerous statements made by the former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.

“We want to state clearly, without mincing words, that the Northern youths viewed this statement as a call for anarchy, a threat to democracy, highly provocative and an invitation to chaos that may completely erase whatever gains the democratic dispensation has achieved. This development also threatens the very fabric of our national cohesion, unity and progress.

“Consequently, the Northern Youth are concerned with the silences and inactions of the Federal Government and the security agencies that have turned their deaf ears and blind eyes to the ruthless, arrogant, proud, boastful and irresponsible utterances by Wike.

The group pointed out that if the FCT Minister is not apprehended, it will invariably believe that the Federal Government is complicit and backing Wike. The group also called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to suspend the minister from the party.

SIMILARLY, an elder statesman and prominent South-South leader, Edwin Clark, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to arrest and prosecute the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his threat to set fire in the states of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors.

The Ijaw leader made this known in a letter to the IGP, which was read, yesterday, during a press briefing at his Asokoro residence.

Clark said that the words of the former governor reflect a flagrant disrespect to the person of President Bola Tinubu, who appointed him.

He described Wike’s comments as a form of treason, capable of inciting violence in the country.
