Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have arrested a 42-year-old man, identified as Nimnan Binfa, for alleged vandalism in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The arrest was disclosed on Monday by security analyst Zagazola Makama through his official X handle.
According to security sources cited by Makama, the suspect was apprehended at about 11:00 a.m. on May 3 by troops of Sector 3 OPEP while allegedly attempting to steal copper wires within the premises of the College of Accountancy in Kwall.
The sources said the arrest was made during a routine security surveillance operation in the area. A chain saw was reportedly recovered from the suspect at the time of his arrest.
Binfa is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation, while authorities say the operation highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb vandalism and safeguard critical infrastructure across the state.
In a separate development, police operatives in Katsina State have foiled an attempted bandit attack on Matinji village in Kankia Local Government Area, recovering seven motorcycles used by the assailants.
Police sources disclosed that the incident occurred at about 6:00 p.m. on May 2, when heavily armed bandits riding on approximately 10 motorcycles stormed the community with the intent to attack residents.
Upon receiving distress reports, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Kankia reportedly mobilised Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) strike teams to the scene.
The operatives engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat into a nearby forest with suspected gunshot wounds.
Security sources added that the fleeing bandits abandoned seven motorcycles, which were subsequently recovered by the police as exhibits.
The area has since been secured and cordoned off, with ongoing mop-up operations aimed at tracking down the fleeing suspects. Authorities say further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
