Akwa Ibom picks contractor for 18-storey residential tower in Lagos
In its drive to boost internally generated revenue and provide much-needed economic diversification amid Nigeria’s current financial challenges, the Akwa Ibom State government has kick-started its 18-storey residential towers in the upscale mixed-use district of Victoria Island in Lagos.
The project christened Ibom Towers aims at boosting investments and economic ties between Lagos and Akwa Ibom. The main contractor selected for the project is Messrs WL Construction Limited. Other consultants include D.O Design Build (Architect), Pois Consult Limited and Alliance Engineering Consult (Structural engineers).
Scheduled for completion in 24 months, it features 30 meticulously designed apartments such as one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units. There is also a four-bedroom duplex penthouse that boasts breathtaking views and luxurious living.
Residents will be welcomed by an impressive entrance driveway, landscaped gardens, and a captivating water feature. The grand reception hall leads to state-of-the-art lifts and staircases, which ensures seamless access to the parking spaces for 65 cars across the ground and 1st to 4th floors.
The 5th floor houses the residence club, by the pool, gym, or lounge and games room, while the 6th to the 14th floors have a mix of apartments and 15th floor harbours the penthouse, with a private roof terrace. The tower offers seclusion and accessibility within a few minutes’ drive to Lagos’ finest establishments.
According to the promoters, the construction and operation of the high-rise will generate substantial employment opportunities, driving economic growth and improving livelihoods. The revenues generated will be reinvested into critical sectors such as agriculture, helping to alleviate food insecurity and improve local food production.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony Governor Umo Eno expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his significant contributions to the development of Lagos, emphasising the importance of patience during this period of reforms in Nigeria.
Also, Governor Sanwo-Olu welcomed the development, highlighting Lagos’ longstanding role as Nigeria’s centre for commerce. “I look forward to seeing this relationship deepen, and who knows, maybe I’ll also invest in an oil well in Akwa Ibom,” he said.
The Managing Director of Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP), Imo-Abasi Jacob, described the project as a premium project designed to attract urban professionals.
The Oba of Oniru, Oba Abdulwasiu Lawal, assured his support and saw it as a legacy of Lagos-Akwa Ibom cooperation.
Former Governor, Obong Victor Attah commended the achievement, viewing it as the realisation of a vision to make Akwa Ibom a key player in real estate and economic growth. “This project represents the fulfilment of long-held aspirations for our state’s prosperity,” he said.
