A Benin High Court presided over by Justice A.O. Ahamioje has ruled that Unity Bank relinquish a land measuring belonging to the Enogie of Enogie of Ogbeson in Ikpoba Okha Local Government of Edo state, Chief Aduwa Ogiegbean, which he claimed the bank illegally acquired from him.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Ahamojie ordered the bank and his privies to remove all the illegal structures on the land or bear the cost of removal of the said illegal structure just as he awarded N50, 000 as cost to the claimant.

The enogie claimed that he acquired the said land in 1973 but it was illegally taken over by the bank, and then known as New Nigeria Bank (NNB).

The judgment was hailed by the Counsel to the complainant, C.J. Eneigide who described it as victory for the oppressed. The Guardian gathered that the bank was already weighing options available of appealing the judgment or abiding by it.
