Environmentalists have called for improved advocacy and policy to protect the planet. They noted that such a move would help to reduce impact of climate change and bestow a sustainable environment for present and future generations.

The Chairman, Lagos State Urban Forest and Animal Shelter Initiative (LUFASI), Desmond Majekodunmi led the call in Lekki, Lagos. He said it is necessary to create more awareness on ways to protect the planet, fight climate change and make the world a better place.

Majekodunmi noted that caring for nature should be a collective effort by critical stakeholders such as individuals, governments and policymakers.

“Nigerians should constantly work for sustainable earth, cities and communities and ensure collaborations with professionals across diverse sectors. It is scientifically proven that if one spends 30 to 45 minutes with trees, green vegetation and forest, a person can be free from stress and purify blood circulation because of positive chemicals from the trees

The General Manager, LUFASI Nature Park, Evans Basil, said man has continuously abused nature and does the opposite of God’s purpose by destroying the earth.

According to him, pollution, gas flaring, deforestation, hurricanes, and earthquakes are man’s handiwork affecting life support systems, adding that advanced technology has not been able to stop these occurrences.

He lamented indiscriminate cutting of trees and plants that give man oxygen.
Chief Executive officer, kodakhotshots Limited Lagos, Okwori Matthew Aduma, encouraged Nigerians to keep touch with nature to tap its benefits.

“I commend the sacrifices of LUFASI’s park management for keeping the place intact for people to have a relationship with nature,” he said.
