Lagos rehabilitates waterworks, targets two million gallon daily

Lagos Water Corporation has revejunated its two Million Gallons per Day (MGD) Mosan Okunola Waterworks, Abesan for maximum output/efficiency.

The Managing Director, Muminu Badmus, an engineer, who made known recently at the LWC Headquarters Water-House, Ijora, explained that she has successfully completed the redevelopment of three low yield boreholes at Mosan Okunola Waterworks to give high yield output/results.

Also rehabilitated, are the processing pumps and restoration of power supply, as test running is currently ongoing, adding that plans are underway to dig additional new boreholes to complement the existing ones for improved service delivery.

Mosan Okunola Waterworks has been facing series of challenges, ranging from low yield boreholes to problem of Processing pumps, Power supply, among others. These have greatly affected the efficiency of the Waterworks, prohibiting it from producing and supplying potable water to the residents of Abesan areas and adjoining communities.

Badmus said operation is expected to resume soon, as the waterworks is giving new energy and vigour for maximum efficiency towards service delivery in the areas of Lagos State.

MEANWHILE, the corporation has alleged mass looting of water pipes at LWC Ishasi major Waterworks.

In its statement signed by the Assistant Director, Public Affairs/PRO, Anifowoshe Rasaq, the corporation explained that the World Bank and State Government funded/procured Water Pipes of different sizes, according to current market value estimated about N1 billion were being carted away by unknown person (s), as all efforts to identify and arrest the culprits proved abortive.

LWC further explained that “12 loaded trucks of water pipes raging from 2000mm, 1500mm, 900mm, 600mm, 500mm, 450mm to 400mm diameters and six heavy duty cranes hiab vehicle left the four MGD, Ishasi Waterworks Pipes yard and carted away pipes meant for the distribution or supplying of water to the residents of Ishasi and its environs, without any approval or documents to do so”.

However, the corporation has call on security operatives in the state to assist LWC in retrieving the Water pipes as no permission is granted for the removal of the items.
