The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has urged the surveyors to work towards preparing young professionals to improve on geospatial data.

Fashola said this at the inauguration of 59 members of Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) in Abuja, saying, they should not come on board to constitute problems but to solve problems for the next generation of surveyors.

He said: “The task of building the profession is before the new executive, which from records, all members are qualified, but they should bury their ego to work as a team as well as treat each member with equal respect and honour.”

The minister also stressed the need of working to see that the country’s geospatial data is used in the areas of security, economic prosperity and development, hoping that they would use their tenure to address them.

Also, the Permanent Secretary, Bashir Alkali, who expressed delight on the inauguration, said the programme is a milestone in the history of the SURCON and urged them to work assiduously to position the profession.

Speaking on behalf of the members, SURCON President, Clement Nwabiche, appreciated the Presidency for finding them worthy to be appointed in the body, assuring that they will work to achieve themandate entrusted to them.

Nwabiche said the minister’s agenda in the area of geospatial data would be pursued with vigour within their tenure and resolve the problems and move the profession to greater height.
