The Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Lagos State chapter has stressed the need for collective responsibility to meet the Lagos urban development challenge.

Chairman of the chapter, David Majekodunmi, said the call became necessary because government lacks the capacity to do it alone.

He stressed that the chapter would be dedicating the 2021 edition of its annual flagship programme, LAF 2021 to engender appropriate responses toward future urban development of Lagos State in the next 25 years.

The programme, he said, is targeted at renewing the processes and systems in which built environment activities are being conducted in the light of present day realities.

Majekodunmi said discussions at the three-day event are expected to devise new ways of running practices, with stakeholders benefitting from engagements that would help them adapt to their local economies.

He also said the event would highlight contemporary issues, while there will be life case studies of successful business models, projects and thought leadership as well as interactions with renowned local and international scholars.

According to him, the thrust of the 2021 edition is to collate all the responses to the challenges brought up in the preceding edition and channel them to the future urban development of Lagos state in the next 25 years.

The event has the theme LAF 2021 – The City of Lagos: The Next Twenty Five Years and holds next month at the Jasmine and Zinnia Halls, Expo Centre of the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

“During LAF 2021, discussants and participants will have several opportunities to interact and establish bilateral ties as well as follow on contracts with affiliated companies, service providers, manufacturers, corporate bodies, prospective end-users, clients and other relevant stakeholders.

“Several activities line up include educational and professional development sessions (planned seminar and workshops, the exhibition of architects’ works and post-conference site tours. Workshops and conference participants will have the opportunity to theoretically and practically from local and international experts in the industry,” he added.
