For smooth regulation of the activities, the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediate fill the vacuum of headship in the (SURCON).

This was a general consensus of the surveyors during their just concluded 51st Annual General Meeting and Conference held at Osogbo, Osun State recently.

NIS had during the conference discussed “Beyond Mapping – Integrating Geospatial Solutions for Sustainable Urban and Rural Development in Nigeria”.

It had technical sessions that dwelt on the Integration of Surveying Solutions for National Development Initiatives such as Sustainable Urban and Rural Development; Clean Water Distribution; Deformation Studies; Land Use Management and Administration; Community Distribution and Management; and a review of Systematic Land Titling for Land Administration and Governance.

The conference also had an election, which was conducted electronically and from which emerged the new Executive Members for the 2016 – 2018 administration of the Institution and the Inauguration Mr. Akinloye Olufemi Oyegbola, as the 20th president of NIS.

After discussion and interactions, far-reaching decisions were made.

In a communiqué by the professionals, the surveyors, who noted that the delay in the appointment of a new president and members of the council of its regulatory body, SURCON was stifling the profession, adding that the names of the nominees have been forward to government.

Also, members of the NIS, who first appreciated the commitment of the current Federal Government to fight corruption in the country, observed that professional has a key role to play in the war against corruption.

They urged themselves to champion this cause by ensuring that they are not collaborators and also assist relevant government agencies to stamp out this albatross to our national development.

Similarly, the surveyors also resolved to foster closer ties with other professionals for enhanced national development

While appreciating the efforts made so far by the Government in developing the nation, NIS, however urged government at all levels to make better use of professionals to further enhance the development of the nation.
