The Association of Facilities Management Practitioners, Nigeria (AFMPN) has called for synergy and collaboration among professionals to enhance the role of facility management across various sectors.
The Chairman, Board of Trustees, Mr Stephen Jagun, who spoke at the inauguration and investiture of the new AFMPN leadership, reiterated the organisation’s dedication to promoting and advancing the practice of facility management, as well as serving as a central platform for facility management professionals.
He said the association’s goal is to elevate facility management as a key driver of economic development by implementing global best practices, fostering international partnerships, and developing localised standards that suit the Nigerian context.
According to Jagun, their vision is to make facility management a vital part of Nigeria’s economy and ensure the highest standards of professionalism and excellence in the field.
AFMPN’s new president, Dr Olumide Aina, promised to address the challenges and tap the opportunities in the industry.
Among the challenges are rapid urbanisation, infrastructure deficit, climate change, and economic uncertainty, while the opportunities are in the country’s young and vibrant population, abundant natural resources, and resilient, entrepreneurial spirit.
“As facilities management professionals, we have a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our communities, environment, and economy. We must seize this moment to redefine our profession, push boundaries, and drive innovation,” he said
Aina pledged to elevate the profession, promote excellence, and drive positive change in the industry. He noted that facilities managers live in a world where the built environment plays a critical role in shaping economies, societies, and individual well-being, adding that facilities management is no longer only about maintaining buildings and infrastructure, but also creating spaces that inspire, heal, educate, and nurture citizens.
This, he said, explained the need for the association to among other things, focus on professional development as a means to enhance skills, knowledge, and competencies to stay ahead of the curve.
The outgoing president, Paul Erubami urged members to embrace change with open hearts, knowing that continuity lies in collective efforts. “Our credibility lies in the value we provide to our clients. Be transparent, ethical, and committed. Deliver exceptional service that leaves our clients.”
