The Rivers State Branch of the Nigeria Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) has disclosed plans to expand digital tools for members.
The Branch Chairman, Nwankwo Nwokoma, stated this during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Port Harcourt recently, stating that such will position it as a model of ethical and professional practice in Nigeria’s real estate sector.
Nwokoma said, though political developments delayed its engagements with the Rivers State Governor, Siminalyi Fubara, it has made remarkable progress nevertheless.
Nwokoma expressed optimism about forging deeper institutional partnerships in the coming year that would boost the branch in all strata for greater societal impacts.
The meeting, which brought together key stakeholders and senior members of the profession, served as a platform for the branch to review its achievements under the Four-Dimensional Development Agenda (4Ds) and to outline strategic priorities for 2026.
The Chairman noted that the Institution has remained committed to educating the public on valuation standards and land administration.
“We have intensified engagements with government agencies, the media, and industry stakeholders to elevate the profile of our profession,” he said, highlighting consistent public enlightenment campaigns through various programs.
According to Nwokoma, key milestones for the year include engagements with the Ministry of Lands and the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area through courtesy visits, where land for the construction of a new branch secretariat was pledged.
He disclosed that the branch also contributed policy input at professional forums, notably a presentation on “Valuation and Compensation Issues in Land Administration” by NIESV’s 24th President.
Some senior members of the profession lauded Nwokoma’s performance. Chairman of the Board of Fellows, Ben Okoronkwo, described his administration as resilient and visionary.
“Under Chairman Nwankwo Nwokoma, this branch has demonstrated strength in the face of challenges. His vision for 2026 will sustain our leadership position, and I have full confidence in his ability to deliver,” Okoronkwo stated, while urging members to diversify their practice areas to ensure long-term sustainability.
Member and House Leader, Ikenna Lansa, commended the AGM’s resolutions, calling them a clear roadmap for the branch’s development.
Similarly, Lagos-based member, Dike Stanley, popularly known as “The Celebrity Valuer,” lauded the administration’s innovative approach, particularly the first-ever AGM broker partnership and the branch’s transparency in financial reporting.
“This was an AGM like no other; a testament to the leadership’s dedication to innovation and operational excellence,” Stanley remarked.
The meeting also reinforced the need to uphold professional standards and combat quackery in real estate transactions.
“By law, valuation is the exclusive preserve of licensed practitioners. Public patronage of qualified professionals ensures accountability and accuracy,” Lansa said, as Nwokoma reiterated the branch’s commitment to sustained public enlightenment campaigns.
“When you diversify, advocate, and uphold ethics, the sky is the limit,” Nwokoma concluded, unveiling an ambitious agenda for 2026 aimed at strengthening the profession and expanding its societal impact.
The chairman reaffirmed its commitment to advancing professional advocacy, ethical standards, and institutional development.
