Stakeholders task quantity surveyors on global best practices

Stakeholders at a two-day workshop organised by the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) have urged surveyors to groom their firms to comply with international standards.

They stressed the need for services to be client centered, adding that the quality of surveyors service should be evaluated by the client whether it meets expectations or not.

According to them, the essence of the workshop was to ensure that the NIQS equips its members with appropriate skills that can assist them in quality service delivery.

NIQS President, Obafemi Oluwole Onashile said, for Nigeria to generate much from construction, it must galvanize the construction industry to contribute to Nigeria economy, help in employment, welfare of citizens and to provide good infrastructure.

He said “My expectations is that our members will now be providing improved quantity surveying to their clients and to their employers, thereby helping in reducing construction cost and bringing best practices to the construction industry.

“We want to be at par with other international consultants such that Nigeria businesses can be exported so that firms can bring foreign exchange to the country.”

Also speaking, Secretary, International affairs, NIQS, Aminu Bashir, stressed the need for surveyors to improve the quality of their services to increase their income, adding, “all your services will best come to limelight when you polish your skills and drive the process with quality.”

On his part, the President of the Commonwealth Association of Surveying and Land Economy (CASLE), Joseph Ajanlekoko said there has been greater awareness for quality and professional development in Nigeria.

stated that the country needs highly qualified people that can bring about an upgrade in professional development.
