Why Ogun rolled out new land titling platform, by official

OWING to several complaints arising from manual land administration in the state, the Ogun state government has said the introduction of electronic land titling was long overdue and necessary to curtail myriad cases of counterfeit documentation of land and property in the state.

While electronic titling will boost land administration in the state, the authorities have equally urged all homeowners in the state not to deal with fraudsters, who impersonate some staffers of the homeowner’s charter

OWING to several complaints arising from manual land administration in the state, the Ogun state government has said the introduction of electronic land titling was long overdue and necessary to curtail myriad cases of counterfeit documentation of land and property in the state.
 
Besides, the state also said the regime of electronic land titling, which has simplified the property acquisition in the state, while at the same encouraging would be homeowners to without further delay ensure registration of their property.
 
Speaking with journalists last week in his office, Oke-mosan, Abeokuta, The Special Adviser/Director General, Bureau of Lands and Survey, Mr. Adewale Oshinowo, said that, the electronic land titling, which has come to stay in the state, has simplified the process of land registration. 
 
‘The Ogun State government has simplified the processes of issuing the electronic Cs of O to property owners in the State and to get the new regime rolling, and that the migration from the paper title to electronics C of O platform is to tackle counterfeiting of the document.’’  This, new era, would certainly eliminate fraud and ensure efficiency in state land administration, the Oshinowo said.
 
He added that the new electronic document is more secure as it is designed to eliminate cloning and issuance of documents that are not genuine. Those issued with this e-C of O can be sure they have bought land rather than law suits.
 
“The new document guarantees safety and assurance of properties, when it is issued; e-C of O, it is sure they have bought land rather than law suits, and the process of obtaining the e-C of O is faster and less cumbersome” Oshinowo said.
 
He said the state government considered the option of issuing e-C of O with peculiar security features to avert the possibility of fraudsters and criminally minded printers faking hard copies of the document.
 
The government frowned at those who are trying to take advantage of the state’s magnanimity to assist her people through the launching of her homeowners’ charter scheme.  
 
‘’It has come to the fore that, some people now disguise as Homeowners’ Charter programme staff extorting money from residents; whoever is caught in this act will be dealt with accordingly’’ Oshinowo said.
 
The DG said the present administration of senator Ibikunle Amosun, has made easy landed property documentation and C of O in Ogun State, saying that it is a common knowledge, the excruciating experiences and costs less privileged Nigerians bear in virtually all parts of the country before the proper documentation of their landed property could be made.
 
According to Oshinowo, government was ready to move against culprit found to constitute any form of threat to the Homeowners’ charter programme, adding that, without apprehending and prosecuting those bent on sabotaging the project, the crime would be highly rampant across the state.
 
Meanwhile, the state has re-echoed the discount rate of the homeowners’ charter initiated by the State Government to bring succor to the citizens of the State through regularization and documentation of their properties.
