The organiser of the annual Legends of Nollywood Awards (LNA) has announced that the 2020 edition of the award will hold on February 15 at the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos. The award was established in 2012 to celebrate the truly memorable and greatest achievements in Nigeria’s motion Pictures history. Prince Jide Kosoko, Kunle Bamtefa, Kasumu Yero, Chief Wale Adenuga, Alex Usifo- Umaigbo, Bisi Olatilo, Nkem Owoh, Patience Ozokwo, Mrs Taiwo Hassan (Mama Awero), Jimi Johnson, Justice Esiri, Femi Robinson, Madam Kofo, Franca Brown, Larry Williams, Zack Orji, Fred Amata, Keppy Ekpenyong-Bassey and Amaka Igwe were past recipients of the award.

But this year, Founder of Legends of Nollywood Awards and Managing Director of Royal Pictures Limited, main organizer of the award Paul Obazele disclosed that the award ceremony is to be held with support from EcoBank Plc, National Theatre, National Stadium, Vuji Milk, National Film and Video Censors Board, Intercontinental Distilleries, Silverbird, NTA, AIT, and Revival Assembly Church. According to him, apart from rewarding practitioners for their contributions to the growth and development of the vibrant Nollywood industry, the award this year will focus on the less privileged and physically challenged “some of whom took part in the two weeks long filmmaking workshop facilitated by Ecobank”. Obazele, a former President of the Association of Movie Producers (AMP) also stated that 30 legends would receive the LNA crest this year.

The veteran actor gave the names of some of the awardees to include Richard Mofe Damijo, Hilda Dokubo, Liz Benson-Amaye, Andy Amenechi, Ernest Obi, Ego Boyo, Amaechi Munagor, Charles Okafor, Kunle Bamtefa, Francis Duru, Nkem Owoh and Obiageli Molube. Obazele also said there would be special recognition awards to personalities and institutions that have contributed to the development of the motion picture industry.

According to Obazele: “ It is time to celebrate the beauty of all ages and as you can see from some of the names I mentioned, the awardees emerged out of a rigorous selection process and you can agree that they are worth celebrating for their contributions to the development of Nollywood.”
