Beauty Contest: Unilag Undergraduate Emerges As Agbeke Eko
A 100 level student at the Sociology Department, University of Lagos, Damilola Edward, 20, has emerged winner at the 2015 Lagos Carnival Queen Pageant tagged Agbeke Eko.
Edward came top among 10 contestants that represented different communities in Lagos. Tobi Philips and Akinrinmade Opemipo became the first and second runners-up respectively.
Speaking to The Guardian at the event, Edward who is also the first runner up Miss Ikorodu said she was stunned when her name was announced as the winner. “I thought I may not win because I am not as tall as others,” she said, her eyes stained with tears of joy.
Her elated mother, Alhaja Yetunde Omowunmi said she knew her daughter would go places having won several other prizes in other beauty contests since her days at Federal Government Girls College, Shagamu. “That was why I sponsored her for the Agbeke Eko pageant”.
Commissioner for Tourism and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr. Disun Holloway handed a cheque of N1.5 million to the winner.
2015 Lagos Carnival Queen Pageant was sponsored by Lagos State government, Lagos Water Regatta, Heritage Bank, Westwood hotel and others.
