The Deputy Director, Directorate of Entrepreneurship Education and Developments (DEESDS), Comrade Ibrahim Abubakar Mutigi, wants students to be actively engaged in skill acquisition.

In a chat with Campusnews, Abubakar noted that DEEDS aims at equipping students with skills, and would upon graduation be job creators, rather than job seekers.

He added that the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) made it mandatory for all polytechnics to have these acquisition centres, as major requirements for all graduating students and also for accreditation.

He disclosed that the entrepreneurship programme, which started in 2008/2009 is divided into three components –– skill acquisition, training and commercialisation. He added that the programme has over 12 skills for students to choose from.

Meanwhile the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) State Coordinator for Niger State, Haj Mairo Idris, has urged academic staff of Federal Polytechnic, Bida, and other public officers to always do periodic medical checks to ascertain their true health status, with a view to avoiding any medical emergencies.

Haj Idris said this in a lecture titled, ‘Script Marking And Lecture Delivery,’ organised by Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic, Bida Branch.

Idris noted that unavoidable deaths arising from cardiovascular diseases and diabetes could be reduced significantly, if everybody imbibed the culture of going for periodic medical checks.
