Ayobamidele “Josh” Majekodunmi is the creative director behind budding menswear label, Josh Amor, a brand debuted November, 2012. Josh Amor is a home-grown brand whose aesthetics strike a cordial balance between street wear and high fashion featuring a range of impeccably tailored jackets, signature style shirts, dapper pants and bespoke suits. Josh Amor has the expertise and understanding of designing and assembling pieces that reflect classic style, making the wearer effortlessly stylish and timeless.

Inception is the name of his first collection. He explains how the name came about: “The name is an expression of self. This collection is a representation of the things I’ve come to love as a designer and our aesthetic as a fashion label. I am of the belief that fashion should be Practical, Style-Friendly, above all should reflect one’s personal art. Inception clearly summarizes the Josh Amor client ,  A man who is an embodiment of all eras in fashion”.
With this being it’s first collection, budding menswear label, Josh Amor, reflects on different elements that best interprets its brand’s aesthetics striking a cordial balance between street wear and high fashion. The collection features a range of impeccably tailored jackets, shirts, shorts and pants with an interesting play on Texture, Pattern and Colour.

Tell us about yourself, growing up, family background, education and all
My name is Ayobamidele Josh Majekodunmi. I hail from Ogun state. I’m from a family of six, the first of four boys. I attended my nursery and primary education in Abeokuta where i lived for the first ten years of my life before relocating to Lagos. I attended Fountain College, Ota. I studied chemical engineering at Covenant University, Ota.

What else do you do for a living?
I’m the creative head behind Josh Amor, a budding menswear label that cater for the men that wish to make a fashion statement.

Please fill us in on your rise to fame and how did it all start I started the fashion business when i was in Covenant University, though looking good was my motive. I also won a couple of awards one of which was the “Most Fashionable” student in my department. I felt bad when people will compliment me for my trendy style and i couldn’t do the same to them; mostly when it’s related to look good. So i decided to make people look good as well.

I began to make clothes for people and i was getting a lot of patronage. I became passionate about the business which encouraged me to build a career in the fashion industry. Mixing business and school was just a handfulI of challenge so i had to put the fashion business to a pause and i began to work towards building a good brand because i noticed the competition was stiff and the industry was dense. I did a couple of trainings and debuted in November, 2012. Our first collection ‘Inception’ was presented in September, 2014 which got a lot of media publications and appraisals. Subsequently, we released a tee shirt series of Abstract African prints, which is fast selling.

Which of your many jobs excite you the most?
I love to make bespoke suits.

What other areas of your career are you looking to explore?
We will love to make some pieces for the feminine gender.

What has been the high point of your Fashion Career?
We haven’t gotten to that point yet.

What has been the lowest so far?
My lowest point has been those days in school when i had to run around to get tailors to give me the best of what i wanted.

What are the plans for the future, short-term goals, anything new?
We hope to open our pop up store/ state of the art studio in the nearest future

What’s your take on fashion and the industry?
Fashion has grown beyond all limitations and I’m happy to witness Nigerians purchase home grown brands. It depicts growth and the realization of genuinty.

Do you think fashion is underrated?
Yes, i’m of the opinion that fashion is underrated.

What’s your day like in the fashion world
A day for me in the fashion world is fun, from sourcing for quality and colourful fabrics to sketching/cutting and finishing is always an experience i look forward to.

What’s your style preference?
My style preference is minimalist, Less is more.

Do you have a style icon?
My style icons are Ozwarld Boateng and Kanye West.

Are you a trend/designer buff or does anything go for you?
I believe that creativity is simply creating your style. I’m a trend setter.

Have you ever suffered a fashion faux pas, if yes tell us about it?
I don’t think i have suffered any fashion faux pas.
