It was a moment of splendour, pride and deep cultural significance in Iho Dimeze Ancient Kingdom, Imo State, as a renowned journalist and Bureau Chief of City People magazine, Chief Emeka Amaefula, was conferred with the chieftaincy title, Ugo Oha I of Iho Dimeze.
The title was recently conferred on Amaefula by His Royal Majesty, Eze (Dr.) Chieze Martin Amaku, Dimeze II of Iho Dimeze Ancient Kingdom, in recognition of his exceptional service, steadfast commitment and outstanding contributions to the unity, development and positive image of the ancient kingdom, as well as his impact on humanity.
The ceremony drew an impressive gathering of traditional rulers, chiefs from the 19 villages, presidents-general and chairmen of the villages, media practitioners and well-wishers, who converged to witness the elevation of a man widely admired for his integrity, vision and selfless service.
With the conferment of the title, Amaefula has been admitted into the Eze-in-Council, the administrative arm of the Iho Dimeze traditional institution.
Over the years, Amaefula has distinguished himself as a devoted son of the soil and a bridge-builder whose influence, goodwill and consistent support have helped promote the cultural heritage, development aspirations and progressive outlook of Iho Dimeze.
Beyond his community, the former staff of the defunct High Society magazine, Lagos, has made notable national impact through journalism, advocacy and public engagement.
His passion for people-centred storytelling, youth empowerment, community upliftment and the preservation of traditional values has earned him admiration across professional, social and cultural circles. Speakers at the event described the chieftaincy honour as both timely and well deserved.
The title Ugo Oha I, which translates as the pride, strength and glory of the people, aptly reflects the values, character and lifelong commitment to service embodied by Amaefula. The title is not merely a ceremonial honour, but a call to higher responsibility, leadership and continued service to the people.
