CARPET is a decorative and functional element in a home. Though it has long been in use, many still make it their preferred floor covering. The reason is not hard to come by; carpet feels and looks great.

It is the uncompromising choice for some people because carpet fulfills the role of providing aesthetics which is the foundation of decoration. It covers a large area of living spaces and as such texture and colour are considered, bearing in mind other furnishing. It is one furnishing accessory that makes it possible to personalise an environment. With carpet, any look can be achieved, ranging from simple to casual softness to bold and jazzy vibrancy.

One of the benefits of using carpet is comfort for the home. It provides warmth and insulates against extreme cold with its weaves of fibres. For the foot and leg areas of the body, comfort is provided near the floor.

For children, elderly people and other family members, safety is of paramount interest and carpet offers this through its non-slip surface. It cushions footsteps. Falls are minimised and in the event that someone trips, injuries are minimised because of the soft surface.
Carpet is also a sound insulator. It muffles the sound that coms from shoes hitting the floor while walking. Rather than the noise bouncing off the floor to fall on walls and furniture, the sound is absorbed. This is especially so when there is padding underneath it. The padding provides added comfort to the body and protects the carpet against tear and wear.

Between different floor, carpet works as a sound barrier by blocking sound transmission to rooms below. Foot traffic on stairs is masked with the use of carpets. Stair runners are widely used for this purpose.

Carpet maintenance is simple but it should be done regularly to retain its beauty. Vacuum every few days in high traffic areas using vacuum cleaner that functions well and has a dust bag to ensure that the dust does not go back to the carpet.
Avoid staining in the first place and remove spills as they occur.
