CobhamsAWARD-WINNING songwriters and producers, Cobhams Asuquo from Nigeria, David ‘King David’ Muthami from Kenya and Ellputo from Mozambique have joined forces to create a song that inspires the youth of Africa to know the power they hold as active citizens in their communities.

This song will be performed by A-list artists from across the African continent and will include a verse crowd sourced from the public. The resulting track will be the first of its kind for Africa and a major asset for the Global Goals campaign, which aims to promote the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals around the world.

By taking part, a member of the public stands a chance to win $500 and be credited alongside Cobhams Asuquo and King David as a fellow songwriter.

The crowdsourcing approach will also allow the song to have an authentic voice – from the thousands of entries expected, the songwriters will get a real feel for the issues near to the hearts of the participants. Universal Music will release the track on Friday, September 4.

To enter the competition the public is urged to visit bit.ly/addyourverse <http://bit.ly/addyourverse> on their mobile phones. Then, follow the instructions to enter and take part in building Africa’s first crowdsourced song! This competition is powered by Every1Mobile and created by ScanAd for the Global Goals campaign. “The brief was a challenging one,” said ‘King David’. “But crowdsourcing lyrics add another layer of depth and truth to making what we expect will be Africa’s next big hit.”

The song will be Africa’s greatest contribution in a worldwide campaign to “Tell Everyone” about the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.

In September 2015, the United Nations launches 17 global goals, a series of ambitious targets to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and tackle climate change for everyone by 2030. 193 world leaders at the United Nations will sign these on the 25th September.

If the goals are met, they ensure the health, safety and future of the planet for everyone on it. And their best chance of being met is if everyone on the planet is aware of them. So the simple but mighty ambition of the Global Goals campaign is to share the global goals with everyone on the planet.

The more people that know and understand the goals, the more politicians can be held to account. If the goals are famous, they won’t be forgotten. “Music has the power to change minds and unify people.

I’m excited to be adding this truly African song to the Global Goals campaign. The project was something I couldn’t resist getting involved in,” said Cobhams Asuquo.
