Dorothy Udeme Ufot’s Simplicity

DOROTHY Ufot’s name may not ring a bell but that of Udeme Ufot, her husband, does. This is because he is one of the trio of Gbemi Sagay and Julia Oku that established S O & U Advertising. He is also a past president of the Association of Advertising Practitioners of Nigeria. Just like her husband, you would not but be struck by Dorothy’s sense of simplicity on meeting her for the first time.

This is because she is a woman who holds a simplistic view of life and as such does not see any big deal in her achievements, though she is an accomplished lawyer and arbitrator who has been in legal practice for many years. Dorothy does not blow her trumpet.

Rather, she expects her work to speak for her. A few years back, she was conferred with the title of Chartered Arbitrator and admitted to the institution’s Panel of Chartered Arbitrators, making her the fifth and the youngest Nigerian to be so elevated by the United Kingdom-based institute.

Her elevation was sequel to her success at the Institute ‘s Fellowship Assessment and Award Waiting Examination in Barcelona, Spain in 1999. She is the principal of Dorothy Ufot and Company, Lagos based firm of legal practitioners, investment consultants and arbitrators. Dorothy still strongly believes in the family unit despite all her achievements.

As such, she performs her roles as a dutiful wife and caring mother of their two children perfectly. In fact, she strongly believes a woman’s place is beside her husband. Hence is always beside her husband at social functions, especially during his tenure as the AAPN president. Another side of Dorothy, which is unknown to most people, is the fact that she is very fashionable. Although she dresses respectably and modestly, her dress sense always stands her out.

Whatever baffles many who know her is how she manages to keep looking like a sweet-16.
